With a surprise motion made on Tuesday night, Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) is requesting a vote on impeaching President Joe Biden over his management of the U.S.-Mexico border and immigration policy. The vote will take place on the House floor this week.

The date of additional action was still being set with leadership, according to Boebert, who spoke as she left the House floor on Tuesday. The House GOP leadership was informed that she would make the privileged move.

Two articles of impeachment—one for misuse of authority and the other for neglect of duty—are included in Boebert’s impeachment resolution, which she submitted earlier this month.

Boebert claims that Biden “knowingly presided over an executive branch that has continuously, overtly, and consistently violated Federal immigration law by pursuing an aggressive, open-borders agenda,” pointing to the more them +2 million immigrants released into the country “without the intention or ability to ensure that they appear in immigration court to face asylum or deportation proceedings.”

Additionally, Boebert’s resolution mentions fentanyl-related deaths and the fact that deportation cases are at historic lows in the second impeachment article for neglect of duty.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Republican from Georgia, proposed an impeachment motion against Biden in May but the resolution did not require the House Floor vote over the administration’s handling of migrant crossings, but Boebert’s proposal will require the House to Vote.

Asked why she was moving forward with the impeachment articles against President Joe Biden now, Boebert said: “It’s been time. It’s past time.”
