Robin Wright awkwardly confesses to Derek Hough she thought he was married to sister Julianne
Robin Wright fell for the common confusion that Derek and Julianne Hough are married.
During an awkward interview moment on the 2026 Golden Globes red carpet, Wright told the “Dancing With The Stars” pro that she thought his younger sister was actually his wife.
“Wait, you’re the brother of Julianne? I love her,” Wright, 59, questioned Derek, 40, as they chatted with “Extra.”
“Can I tell you something? When I first saw her dance, I was like, ‘They’re married.’”
Derek admitted to Wright, “I’ve got that sometimes.”
The “Forrest Gump” star went on to gush over the brother-sister duo and their dance videos.
“You guys are amazing together. I follow you guys on Instagram and watch you guys move,” she told Derek.
The choreographer thanked Wright for her kind words and pivoted the conversation to her being nominated for a Golden Globe award for her role in the Prime Video limited series “The Girlfriend.”
Derek and Julianne are the youngest of the five Hough siblings who grew up in a Mormon household in Utah.
The brother-sister duo rose to fame together on “Dancing with the Stars.” Derek is currently a judge on the show with Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli, while Julianne co-hosts with Alfonso Ribeiro.
In Sept. 2025, Julianne opened up about how one of the pair’s earliest collaborations on the “DWTS” live tour created confusion about their relationship.
“Carrie Ann was the one who choreographed everything, and she got us to do a rumba together. You guys, that’s the dance of love that my brother and I had to dance together,” she said on the “Chicks in the Office” podcast.
“Our names in the program were ‘Derek and Julianne Hough,’ so everybody thought we were married and were doing this rumba,” the pro dancer continued. “When people found out we were brother and sister? I remember there was one venue, and we just heard, ‘That’s just wrong!’”
Julianne was previously married to former NHL star Brooks Laich from 2017 to 2020. She dated Ryan Seacrest for three years before breaking up in 2013.
Derek, for his part, has been married to fellow dancer Hayley Erbert since 2023. The couple welcomed their first child together, daughter Everly, last month.
Julianne congratulated her brother and sister-in-law on their special news in the comments section of their Instagram announcement, writing, “Welcome to the world sweet angel Everley .”
