Winona Ryder weighs in on Kendall Jenner’s 2024 Met Gala dress controversy: ‘I did wear it’

Winona Ryder is adding her two cents.

The “Beetlejuice” star found herself in the middle of a Met Gala controversy after Kendall Jenner claimed she was the “first human” to ever wear an archival dress Ryder once modeled — and in a new cover story with Harper’s Bazaar, the actress seems to dispute the facts.

The “Little Women” actress, 52, has remained mum on the matter until Thursday, when she told the magazine she “did wear” Jenner’s slinky black Givenchy piece in a 1999 Flaunt magazine shoot.

While Jenner, 28, told Vogue the dress — which had never been shown on the runway and had only been displayed on mannequins — was “literally a sleeping beauty” in keeping with the Met Gala’s 2024 theme, photos of Ryder modeling the same look emerged on X (formerly Twitter) soon after.

Page Six Style confirmed at the time that the version the “Girl, Interrupted” star wore in Flaunt was a replica, but in her new interview, Ryder seems to hint that she in fact slipped into the original.

The “Heathers” star told Harper’s Bazaar that she “heard about” the dress dilemma at the time, adding, “I do remember that photo shoot.”

“And I did wear it. I have pictures,” she continued. “The photographer gave me some prints. I’m in a tartan in one of them, and I’m in that dress.”

Ryder showed off the plunging black design — which featured a corset-style top with a sheer cutout panel at the midsection and tassel trim on the shoulders — in two photos for the mag, with the dress hailing from Alexander McQueen’s fall ’99 collection for Givenchy.

Archival pieces aside, the “Alien: Resurrection” star also told Harper’s Bazaar that she refused to wear high heels to red carpet events anymore and instead wears boots, telling the mag, “I actually made a conscious decision, maybe six years ago.”

As for the Givenchy look, this highly debated dress is sure to go down in fashion history.
